So, I’m really on hiatus with the movie reviews again. While I’m seeing less movies than I prefer, I am still seeing them, and easily have a dozen I could write up. But I’m too far behind for my old every-new-movie-I-see standard, and when it comes to just writing up ones about which I am inspired to write, even that inspiration is having a hard time finding space. I’m still learning my impulses as a writer – this is likely to continue until I die – but what I know is that when writing time is precious, and the weight of an entirely self-imposed project is not only making me more glum about my output, it is actually threatening to discourage me from going to more movies, then it is REALLY time to remember that some of the things I make into projects, shouldn’t be.

Alice in Wonderland, though? That movie made me mean mad.

P.S. I do still intend to re-post more of my archive from the other blogs. Because reviews of movies that came out six years ago are exactly what blogging’s about, right?

You might have noticed that your 50+ attempts to spam my Starsky & Hutch review with ads for acne medication have been cunningly baleeted before they saw the light of day. I understand that, as a soulless piece of software, you will continue your futile efforts longer than I would on a failing date. I request only that you evolve to a state of artificial self-awareness soon, so when I mock your failure, you understand what shame feels like.

Blogging version of Crib Death

I thought I might hold out longer than this, but looking at my “to-do” list in the writing world has daunted me enough that I’m going to shelve the Box Office analysis as a regular feature. I am sure to offer up frequent opinions about where Hollywood is choosing to spend its money these days (a Battleship movie? Really? Isn’t Fireball Island a little more cinematic?), but I’ll leave the number-crunching to the many doing it already.

I am still tweaking with theme and layout here in NewWebsiteLand, but it seems like time to initiate the most laborious bit of virtual earth-moving – re-locating my archive of movie reviews. They have long been the most popular feature of my LiveJournal blog and they drew the most eyeballs/comments to the Blogspot annex I maintained for a couple of years. The Blogspot copies of the reviews are still linked at the IMDB pages for their respective movies, which took some drudgery. Now it will take more drudgery to re-post the reviews and re-direct said links, but if this is to be the gravity well for Nicholas Thurkettle web content, no sense ignoring the popular stuff.

You ought to see them appearing, one or two per day that I am near home base, relatively soon. But I recently posted my 300th, so it’s going to take awhile.

My ambition is to be able to publish blog posts here and at Livejournal simultaneously, so I can start attracting eyeballs here but not deprive my longtime readers over there. It should be a fairly simple matter to do it by e-mail without the rigmarole of manually double-posting, but like most simple matters in the programming world, I need to go find the procedural needle in the Matrix haystack first. Trial and error is underway.

Welcome to my under-development website. As you can see – it’s a little bare around here right now. Things are likely to be fluky here in this one-man band for awhile, but the more I post, the more I will learn. In the upper-right hand corner you will see I have a basic bio and services page. Also, I have been blogging for many moons over at Livejournal, and my intent is to merge that work with this professional calling card of a frame. We’ll just see how all that goes…
